Leandro Bisiach, 1940
Known as a three star maker, Bisiach did a remarkable job varnishing this Stardivari model, giving it a lustrous orange-red shade that appears as slightly transparent. The G and D string have a viola like sonority while the A and E string maintain a brilliance and clarity one has to play to understand.
William Henley writes: "If a maker is to be estimated by a perpetual demand for his instruments then assuredly Pollastri has reached a position beyond which few contemporaries have advanced."
Marlin Brinser rates Augustus Pollastri as a 3 star maker.
